While I'm on the old high horse

Another thing that shits me: products that are totally unnecessary but TV ads attempt to bribe/guilt you into buying them anyway.

There's an ad going around at the moment (and I'm sure it's probably been on in the States as well), for Dettol hand wash dispenser, that you don't have to touch. It senses your hands underneath it.

Why do we need this?

Because, apparently, your regular old, boring hand wash, it's pump contains germs. So every time you touch it, your getting a fist full of germs.

So, hands up who hasn't seen the obvious flaw in this logic?

I see no hands. Good.

Once you've pumped out the soap, what are you doing? YOU'RE WASHING YOUR FUCKING HANDS!!!!!!!!! Thereby, negating any germ carrying potential in the first place. Honestly, does every advertising agency believe we're all brain dead?

Yeah, no need to answer that one.

I literally just had a discussion (argument) about this the other day. I'm with you, buddy.

I've seen this ad here in Canada only it wasn't for Dettol but for some other antiseptic which is no doubt the same thing rebranded for here.

Yeah it's a stupid idea. But I guess they know that people are sort of sheep and if they're told "this has germs" they'll switch to the other without thinking about the obvious logic breakdown.
